About CBOT Rough Rice Futures

A part of the grass family, rice is the third-largest global crop, behind both maize and wheat. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, rice is the primary food source for more than half the world's population.

While often cultivated in underdeveloped countries, rice is able to grow in nearly any climate. However, it is extremely labor-intensive. Since rice crops require a suitable amount rainfall, prices for the grain can fluctuate. The CBOT Rough Rice futures contract allows traders to hedge against price variations.
